County shares of California Farm Sales and Poverty Rates, 2010

California's major farm counties had the highest poverty rates in 2010. Fresno, Tulare, and Kern counties, which accounted for 45 percent of the state’s farm sales, had overall poverty rates well above the state rate of 16 percent, and under-18 poverty rates well above the state rate of 22 percent. The seven counties that accounted for almost 60 percent of Californiais farm sales had an average overall poverty rate of 22 percent and an average child-poverty rate of 30 percent. Farm sales data are from county agricultural commissioner reports, and poverty data are from the American Community Survey.
