The UN estimated that there were 272 million international migrants in 2019, making 3.5 percent of the world’s 7.7 billion people migrants. The number of migrants has been rising by three million a year. The US had the most migrants in 2019, over 50 million (the UN considers Puerto Ricans who move to the mainland to be migrants), followed by Germany and Saudi Arabia, 13 million each, Russia, 12 million, the UK, 10 million, the UAE, nine million, and France, Canada, and Australia, eight million each. The UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Germany had the fastest growth in migrants between 2000 and 2019.
